Rosatom is starting to develop training programs for the personnel of the upcoming nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan

Rosatom Technical Academy has started creating training programs for the staff of Uzbekistan’s upcoming nuclear power plant, whose construction began in June.

Academy specialists are creating training and methodological materials for the new project and scheduling personnel training sessions in accordance with the construction phases of the nuclear facility. These training courses will be quickly adjusted to accommodate new technological requirements. At the Novovoronezh branch alone, approximately 50 specialized experts are engaged in developing training programs for their Uzbek counterparts.

“By the end of December, we aim to develop a comprehensive pool of training courses that cover all essential aspects of nuclear power plant operation. This includes areas such as reactor, turbine, electrical, chemical, thermal automation, and instrumentation departments, as well as radioactive waste management, metal flaw detection, and the principles of control and inspection methodology”, said Sergey Bukin, Director of the Center for Theoretical and Practical Training at the Novovoronezh branch of the Technical Academy. 

“During the preparatory phase, training materials will need to be tailored to small reactors, incorporating knowledge from related fields and emphasizing practical skills. Long-term plans include establishing a comprehensive training center in Uzbekistan. Instead of just training operators for commissioning, the Technical Academy aims to create an educational environment where hundreds of specialists across the entire nuclear industry can train. The initial phase, involving theoretical instruction and skills training on a full-scale simulator, is expected to start once all training modules are finalized and approved, anticipated from early 2027”, said Ruslan Magda, Project Director at the Technical Academy.
