A panel discussion titled “The role of parliaments in the enforcement of international humanitarian law and international human rights law” was held. Participants discussed implementing international legal obligations at the national level and ways to strengthen mechanisms to protect human life and dignity.
The event was chaired by Inter-Parliamentary Union Vice-President Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka and featured experts representing the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the Parliament of Kenya.

In her remarks, Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, emphasized that protecting human life and dignity, especially in the most difficult circumstances, is a shared goal. International law sets out the necessary norms. The key task is to implement them and prevent violations.
The Senate Chairperson stated that Uzbekistan advocates settling conflicts on the basis of the UN Charter and international law through dialogue and diplomatic means.

During the discussion, it was noted that consistent compliance with international humanitarian law and international human rights standards is essential to preventing conflicts.
