Presidents of Uzbekistan and Germany confirm course toward deepening multifaceted partnership
Talks between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier were held at the Kuksaroy Residence in a contracted format and with the participation of delegations.
Key issues in developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany, strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, and cultural and humanitarian interaction were considered.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan particularly emphasized the Federal President of Germany’s personal contribution to the consistent development of relations between his country and the European Union with Uzbekistan and the Central Asian states, as well as to the promotion of mutually beneficial interregional cooperation.
The intensive nature of bilateral dialogue and the high level of contacts between the countries were noted with satisfaction. Cooperation in the trade and investment sphere is showing steady positive momentum. Last year, the volume of mutual trade exceeded $1.4 billion, and since the beginning of this year it has increased by another 5 percent. The volume of German investment in Uzbekistan’s economy reached $2 billion in 2025.

The importance of the Days of German Economy and the 10th meeting of the German-Uzbek Business Council, held in Tashkent in May, was emphasized. Following the events, a package of new investment and trade agreements worth more than $1 billion was signed.
Cultural and humanitarian ties are steadily strengthening. Today, more than 400,000 young people in Uzbekistan are studying German, and over 2,000 students are studying at leading universities in Germany. Last year, the Forum of Universities of the two countries was held for the first time.

An important step in developing educational cooperation was the signing last week of an agreement with a consortium of German universities to open the Uzbek-German University of Applied Sciences in Samarkand.
The heads of state confirmed their interest in expanding cooperation across industry, energy and the green economy, transport and logistics, mining and textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, education, and healthcare.

The leaders welcomed the launch of new joint projects and programs in automotive manufacturing, household chemical production, logistics, and the training of qualified personnel. They supported hosting the second Forum of Universities and the third Uzbek-German Medical Forum in Tashkent.
The sides also exchanged views on current issues on the regional and international agenda and discussed prospects for cooperation in multilateral formats, including the Central Asia – Germany platform.

It was expressed that the Federal President of Germany’s current visit is expected to mark a new phase in relations between Uzbekistan and Germany and help expand mutually beneficial cooperation across all areas of the bilateral agenda.
