The delegation then visited the Amir Temur Mausoleum, Registan Square, the Shah-i-Zinda Memorial Complex, and other historical monuments and landmarks in Samarkand.
Pere Joan Pons Sampietro noted that his meeting with the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev the previous day focused on international cooperation.
According to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President, the discussions covered the development of interparliamentary cooperation between European and Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, and the strengthening of trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties in the region. He also emphasized the particular significance of the delegation’s visit to Samarkand. He noted that the city had connected East and West through the Great Silk Road since ancient times and continued to play an important role as a venue for international dialogue. In particular, he recalled that Samarkand had hosted the Central Asia – European Union Summit last year, as well as several prominent international forums in recent days.
