Meeting between the Director of the National Center of Uzbekistan for Human Rights and the UNHCR Representative for Central Asia
A meeting was held between Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, and Mahir Safarli, Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Central Asia. Balzhan Oshakbayeva, the UNHCR Legal Protection Officer for Central Asia, also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation to protect the rights of refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless persons, as well as ways to strengthen institutional cooperation between the NCHR and UNHCR.

Following the meeting, the Joint Work Plan for 2026 between the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (NHRC) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was signed.
The document outlines the priority areas for joint activity in the coming period, including improving national legislation and law-enforcement practice, raising awareness and building capacity, and promoting international standards for the protection of the rights of the relevant categories of persons.

The parties expressed their readiness to develop a constructive partnership and to effectively implement the agreements reached.
