Lazgi Museum – a new venue dedicated to national art

As previously reported, on August 17 this year, during the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Khorezm region, the Lazgi Museum in Urgench opened and began operations.

The modern museum building, built for 29 billion UZS, features more than ten sections that let visitors explore the art, history, and culture of Khorezm, dating back to the Paleolithic era.

“In 2019, the Lazgi dance was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. I believe this museum’s creation shows the President’s strong respect for Khorezm’s art”, says Museum Director Kamron Saidov. “Herodotus noted 2,500 years ago that Khorezmians lit fires near the Oxus (Amudarya) River and danced around them. The museum displays many such intriguing historical details”.

The museum showcases exhibitions on nine different types of Lazgi. The displays offer insights into the historical periods when the dance originated and how its various styles have transformed over time.
