Hassan Ibrahim: Young parliamentarians aim to transform rights from declarations into reality
Hassan Ibrahim, Member of the Bureau of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, shared his views on the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is being held in Samarkand.
Speaking at the conference, he said:
– I express my gratitude to Uzbekistan for its initiative and contribution to organizing this significant conference.
The theme of this year’s conference, focused on reclaiming human rights, is highly relevant. We are living in a time marked by new conflicts, economic instability, rapid technological advancements, and other serious crises. However, there is an underlying crisis that also demands our attention – a crisis of hope. Increasingly, young people are doubting that the future will be brighter than the present. They study but wonder if their education will lead to decent employment. They work but remain uncertain if their efforts will allow them to achieve a dignified, prosperous life. They observe technology transforming society but worry about who will benefit and who might be left behind.
When young people start to lose hope for the future, we lose something truly vital. Hope is not just an emotion. It is fundamentally connected to human rights. When our rights are safeguarded, our trust in what lies ahead also increases.
The right to education gives individuals the chance to gain the knowledge and skills needed to shape their future. Meanwhile, the right to participate in decision-making ensures that everyone has a voice, and their opinions are considered in decisions that could impact their lives.
As parliamentarians, our role is to transform rights from mere declarations into tangible realities. As young members of parliament, we deeply understand the concerns, aspirations, and hopes of the younger generation. At the same time, we work within institutions with the authority and capacity to tackle current challenges by changing laws, influencing budget decisions, and making parliaments more transparent and receptive to meaningful dialogue with youth.
