Financial sanctions for environmental violations
On May 4, the President signed the Law “On introducing amendments and addenda to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with strengthening liability for offenses in the ecology, environmental protection, and the use of natural resources”.
The document introduces amendments and additions to several legislative acts. Financial sanctions are being introduced for offenses in the sphere of ecology, environmental protection, and the use of natural resources.
For violations of the procedures for carrying out riverbed cleaning and riverbank reinforcement works, legal entities will be subject to financial sanctions in the form of a fine equal to three times the damage caused to the environment.
For water pollution, as well as for violations of the requirements regarding the conditions for discharging wastewater into water bodies, legal entities will be subject to financial sanctions in the form of a fine equal to ten times the compensatory payment payable for environmental pollution.
For failure to take measures established by legislation to protect and preserve trees in territories owned by or assigned to legal entities, legal entities will be subject to financial sanctions in the form of a fine equal to five times the damage caused to the environment.
The Law will enter into force three months after its official publication.
