Belgrade celebrates the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement

A delegation from Uzbekistan led by Sodiq Safoyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, attended a commemorative meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The event was attended by distinguished guests from 30 countries, including heads of state and government, parliamentary chairmen, deputy prime ministers, and minister-led delegations.

Speaking at the event’s opening ceremony, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić noted the historical significance of Belgrade as the site of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1961 and stressed that the movement’s basic principles remain relevant today.

Mr. Safoyev, the head of Uzbekistan’s delegation, emphasized the current significance of the Non-Aligned Movement and discussed Uzbekistan’s preparations for its 2027-2030 presidency. He highlighted initiatives introduced by the President of Uzbekistan on international platforms, focusing on promoting peace and security, fostering economic cooperation, addressing climate change, and engaging youth as key priority areas.

During the event, the President of Serbia met with the Uzbekistan delegation. The meeting underscored that Serbia and Uzbekistan are developing multifaceted relations dynamically, based on active dialogue between the leaders of the two countries. The importance of expanding the scope of inter-parliamentary dialogue and joint economic, trade, and investment projects was emphasized.

Meetings also took place with Marina Raguš, Vice President of the National Assembly of Serbia, as well as with leaders of other international delegations.
