A new monograph by Uzbek scientists focusing on genomic research has been published.
Studying the human genome is one of the most important directions in modern medicine.
The creation of a scientific monograph in this field by Uzbek scientists, first and foremost, provides us with a scientific basis for a deeper study of the genetic characteristics specific to our population, for identifying factors of predisposition to diseases, and for developing future preventive and personalized medical approaches tailored to the population.
The monograph "Whole-Genome Association Studies: Methods, Current Status, and Prospects," authored by Alisher Abdullayev, Darya Zakirova, Mirakbar Yoqubov, Go'zal Abdullayeva, and Shahlo Turdiqulova, illuminates the methods for conducting GWAS—whole-genome association studies—as well as issues of data analysis and the interpretation of results.
A key feature of the book is the dedication of a separate chapter to the genetics of the Uzbek population. It examines issues such as the prevalence of genetic variants and their association with cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
This line of research also holds international significance, as the genetic characteristics of Central Asian populations are underrepresented in global genomic studies. An increase in research on the Uzbek population will enrich international genomic data and expand the participation of Uzbek scientists in international scientific collaboration.
