Internet providers discussed prospects for development of telecommunications industry
A meeting of representatives of the Public Council on the Issues of Development of Information Technologies and Communications under the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan with local mobile operators and Internet providers serving all regions of the country was held in Tashkent.
The meeting was devoted to current issues and problems of telecommunications industry, including the need to improve the quality of service to mobile customers and the speed of Internet connection in all regions of Uzbekistan.
Representatives of JSC “Uzbektelecom” informed that by the end of this year a phased reduction in the cost of connection to international Internet channels and an increase in the existing capacity are planned. The price list will be revised in the direction of lowering the tariffs for renting channels for local Internet providers, a unified regulation on leasing the infrastructure of JSC “Uzbektelecom” has been developed. Currently, issues are being worked out on accelerated development of the country’s regional telecommunications infrastructure, in particular on creation of optical networks based on local access networks.
Based on the results of the discussion, the Public Council on the Issues of Development of Information Technologies and Communications proposed to create an expert council for operators and providers. Monthly, its representative will forward proposals developed by Internet providers for ensuring the development of market relations in the field of Internet services, as well as for expanding their networks.
