Tashkent to host wrestling tournament
The international freestyle and Greek-Roman wrestling tournament Uzbekistan Independence Cup will be held in Tashkent on 15-18 April. The cup, held since 1997, has a high status among the international tournament in the series of FILA. According to organizers, this year the cup will host the largest number of participants in its history – over 100 athletes from more than 20 countries.
International kurash tournament ends
The ninth international kurash tournament for the prize of the President of Uzbekistan, devoted to the memory of Hakim at-Termizi, ended in Termez. During two days, athletes from 30 countries fought in six weight categories, as well as for the absolute championship.
Festival of Kurash in Termez
Under the leadership of President Islam Karimov, Uzbek national Kurash went into the international arena and already recognized as one of the types of athletic activity. Over the last years more than 100 countries became members of the International Kurash Association. Year after year, the numbers of participants is increasing in the traditional international tournament for the prize of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan devoted to the memory of Hakim al-Termizi in Termez and of Amir Temur in Shakhrisabz.
Diplomats' mini football tournament held
Tenth mini football tournament among diplomats accredited in Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent on 5-6 October. In the first group of the tournament, the team of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan won the first place. The representatives of the Embassy of Russia was second and the Kazakhstan embassy team was third.
Tashkent Open tennis tournament completes
The week-long international tennis tournament Tashkent Open, which is included in the classification of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), ended in Tashkent. In the final game of the singles, representative of Germany Sabini Lisitski met Romanian Sorana Kirsti. Kirsti won with 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) and got the grand prize of the Tashkent Open.
Uzbekistan successfully participates in biathlon championship
Athletes of Uzbekistan successfully participated in the Summer Biathlon World Championship held in France on 18-30 September. Ruslan Nosirov won a bronze medal among adults, and Anuzar Yunusov won two gold medals in junior competitions. A solemn meeting of the national team of Uzbekistan was held at the Tashkent airport on Thursday.
Women’s tennis tournament "Tashkent open" starts
Traditional international tennis tournament of women “Tashkent open” started in the Republican Tennis School of Olympic Reserve. At the opening ceremony, it was noted that special attention is given by the President Islam Karimov to the development of sports and in particularly of tennis as an important field by forming, throughout the country, the necessary conditions for the spread of this sport, education of talented young athletes of a big racket.
Chess-player Rustam Kasymjanov publishes book
World chess champion Rustam Kasymjanov published a book “The magic world of chess” in Uzbek and Russian languages. The book includes 38 lessons teaching how to play chess. The publication is intended for a wide audience of readers – from school children to people of senior age. They books contains colored illustrations and author’s drawings.
Anuzar Yunusov becomes world champion
Uzbek sportsman Anuzar Yunusov earned two gold medals at world cup on summer biathlon in France. The athlete was the first to arrive to the finish in the 4- and 6-km distance among juniors and twice rose to the highest stage of the pedestal.
Abdullа Tangriev wins silver
Uzbek athlete Abdulla Tangriev successfully participated in the international judo tournament in Riga, Latvia. Tangriev won over all competitors and received a silver medal in the final.
National cycling marathon completes
National cycling marathon was held in Chirchik town of Tashkent region. 130 sportsmen took part in the competition organized in the framework of the Year of Youth state program.
Karolina Chyornaya reaches next stage
Players from Europe and Asia are participating in the international juniors tennis tournament in the Israeli city of Netanya. Uzbek tennis player Karolina Chyornaya, sown in the competitions among girls as No.2, played against Yekaterina Tour from Israel.
Beijing Olympics winners visit Aral Sea area
Participants of the Beijing Summer Olympic Games visited the Aral Sea area to meet the young people and representatives of the public. In Nukus, they familiarized themselves with the closed sports arena in the city center, as well as buildings where sport games Barkamol Avlod 2008 were held.
International tennis tournament held in Karshi
A week-long international tennis tournament among women was held in the city of Karshi. Representatives of almost 20 countries participated in the ITF competition.
Gymnastics show held in capital
A show devoted to gymnastics winners of the Beijing Summer Olympics Anton Fokin and Yekaterina Khilko was held at the Tashkent gymnastics center Universal. The event was organized by the Gymnastics Federation of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Children’s Sport Development Fund under the Ministry of Education.
President of Uzbekistan meets Beijing Olympics winners
On 10 September, President Islam Karimov met sportsmen of Uzbekistan who won gold, silver and bronze medals at the Beijing Olympic Games. The head of the state said that shown results and achieved success was the victory of all Uzbek people, first of all, of the young people, who supported the athletes.
