Wellbeing of children and families – a high priority

Tashkent hosted an international forum on “Strengthening social work in ensuring the wellbeing of children and families in Uzbekistan”.
The forum, organized by the Republican Center for Social Adaptation of Children together with Public Children’s Fund “Sen Yolgiz Emassan”, the Scientific and Practical Research Center “Oila”, the Ministries of Public Education, Health, Higher and Secondary Special Education, the National University of Uzbekistan, and the UNICEF Representative Office in the country, was held on the eve of the 30th Anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Participants of the event discussed such issues as introducing amendments and additions to the current legislation on strengthening the legal foundations for the harmonious development of children, choosing the best practices for providing targeted assistance to children and families, preventing family dysfunction, social abandonment and delinquency among adolescents, improving professionalism of social workers and social services, defining the tasks of specialists of similar professions and paraprofessionals in reforming the guardianship system.
Deputy Prime Minister, Chairperson of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan Elmira Basitkhanova addressed the forum.
