According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, issues of bilateral and multilateral partnership were discussed at the meeting.
Representative of the White House Administration assured the guests of his readiness to support the implementation of all previously reached agreements and emphasized that the Government of Uzbekistan can count on the United States in the process of implementation of market economy instruments, eliminating trade barriers and factors that impede further growth in bilateral trade and export of Uzbek products, as well as the issue of the country’s accession into the WTO.
The Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade S. Umurzakov provided information on Uzbekistan goods that would be of interest to American consumers. According to the country’s diplomatic mission in Washington, W. Ross, taking into account the huge unused potential in bilateral trade relations, decided to comprehensively study and present to the Uzbek side his vision regarding the export to the United States of over 60 items of Uzbekistan goods worth about 1.5 billion USD.
Over the past two years, Uzbekistan – American trade turnover has grown significantly. In 2018, the mutual exchange of goods and services reached more than 500 million USD, which was a two-fold increase compared to 2017. Mutual trade in January-August 2019 already amounted to 492.7 million dollars, while in the same period in 2018, this figure was only 195.8 million USD.
The Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade S. Umurzakov proposed to form a new platform of interaction in “C5+1” format at the level of the heads of foreign economic agencies of Central Asian countries and the United States. This mechanism will play a positive role in expanding and facilitating US participation in the regional economic integration of Central Asian countries.
