Participants of the Cultural Heritage Week “Uzbekistan – the crossroads of great roads and civilizations: empires, religions, cultures” will visit the Center for Islamic Civilization and the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan on August 23, where they can get the opportunity to see the copies of the first manuscripts of the Quran – the Quran of Uthman and Katta Langar Quran.

The Quran of Uthman is written on the skin of an unborn calf and is considered the first manuscript of the holy book. Every year, thousands of tourists from many countries of the world come to Tashkent to see this rare manuscript, which is sacred to all representatives of the Islamic world.

Famous Katta Langar Quran is of global importance for Islam and all Muslims. This ancient book is included in the number of cultural and historical values that are the heritage of all mankind.

According to experts, the total volume of the manuscript of Katta Langar Quran was 206 pages, almost half of the book has been preserved to this day – 97 pages, 81 pages of Quran are in Russia and stored at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to the latest information, 16 pages of the manuscript are stored in Uzbekistan. Currently, the fate of the remaining pages is unknown.

In this regard, Sevimli TV channel of Uzbekistan, together with BBC Uzbek, is implementing a project aimed at searching for the lost pages of the legendary Quran. A documentary called “Myths and Truth about the Katta Langar Quran” was also shot. The shooting took place in Tashkent, Bukhara, Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions, as well as in Russia’s Saint Petersburg. The film reveals historical facts about the export of most pages of the Quran to Saint Petersburg. It includes memories of aksakals and local population of the village of Arablar, myths and facts related to Katta Langar Quran.

Thirty 15-minute films were shot under the project. They will be presented to the attention of viewers during the month of Ramadan on Sevimli TV channel and on the websites of the Uzbek BBC.
