A press conference, devoted to the activities in 2015 and plans for 2016 of the Parliamentary Commission on administering the assets of the Public Fund to support NGOs and other civil society institutions under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan took place at the National press-center in Tashkent.

Chairman of the parliamentary commission A. Saidov, chairman of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan I.Halimbekov and others noted that under the leadership of President Islam Karimov in our country all institutions of civil society are supported.

The Public Fund and the Commission, functioning since 2008, have been assisting the implementation of best social projects of NGOs, media organizations and other civil society institutions.

For this purpose 5 times more resources was allocated last year compared to 2008 from the State budget. In 2015, 10 billion soums were assigned in the form of government grants, social orders and the state subsidy to NGOs and other civil society institutions.

Over thousand NGOs, the media and other civil society institutions presented over 1,200 projects during the selection for grants. Most projects were from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Tashkent and Ferghana region. Within implementation of the projects, extensive work on the care of the elderly, raising healthy and harmoniously developed generation and further strengthening of inter-regional development have been carried out.

In 2016 11 billion soums are allocated for financing NGOs and other civil society institutions from the state budget. A competition among non-governmental organizations, aimed at the broad involvement of NGOs in the execution of the tasks of the State program "Year of a healthy mother and child", ensuring active civil society participation in the strengthening of legislation, raising the legal culture, media coverage of the implementation of socio-economic programs, education of harmoniously developed generation, environmental protection, has been announced.
