Outcomes of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asia

On December 6, 2019, Ambassador of Uzbekistan Javlon Vakhabov attended the roundtable discussion in the Atlantic Council in Washington, where the results of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asia held on November 29 in Tashkent, were discussed.
According to Uzbekistan MFA, the event was attended by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asia, Press, Public Diplomacy Jonathan Henick and other representatives of the Department of State, former ambassadors of the United States to Central Asia, as well as representatives of leading American think tanks, including the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, American Foreign Policy Institute, Center for International Private Enterprise.
In his speech, the Ambassador informed participants about the significance of Tashkent meeting of leaders of Central Asia, key results of this summit, as well as about initiatives forwarded by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It was noted that this meeting provides an opportunity to determine the forms and mechanisms contributing the elimination of trade barriers and closer economic cooperation, modernization of energy infrastructure and expansion of transit opportunities in Central Asia.
Experts generally praised the outcome of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Tashkent and noted that it took place in a completely new dynamic trust relationship between the region's countries, which creates a solid basis for settlement of long-term contradictions and a significant breakthrough in trade-economic partnership.
