The Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov held talks with the delegation of Saudi Arabia led by the Chairman of the Board of ACWA Power Mohammad A. Abunayyan.

The course of joint projects and prospects for further cooperation were discussed at the meeting.

The Ministry of Energy, together with ACWA Power, is implementing a project on building two combined cycle power plants with a total capacity of 1250 MW in Syrdarya region. An agreement was signed between the parties on the basic conditions for the implementation of the project, within the framework of the Energy Investment Forum, held on September 20-21, 2019 in Tashkent.

Within the framework of the project, ACWA Power will provide the design, supply and construction of two combined cycle power plants at the expense of foreign direct investment in the amount of 1.0 billion USD (estimated).

The Ministry of Energy, together with the khokimiyat of Syrdarya region and the International Finance Corporation, identified sites in Boyovut district and the city of Shirin in Syrdarya region for placement of combined cycle power plants.

Currently, the Draft Investment Agreement and the Agreement on the purchase of electricity, worked out jointly with ministries and agencies, are at the final stage.

During the negotiations, the parties reached an agreement on implementation of the stages of joint projects in accordance with the planned work schedules.

At the same time, the parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on joint training of personnel on the basis of a technical school in Shirin city of Syrdarya region.
