Metrology and standardization system improvingThe world community celebrates 20 May as World Metrology Day.
The integration of this country’s economy into the world economic system, the improving of the effective legislative basis so that it conforms to international standards, the supply of more locally-made products to world markets and the creation of law-based foundations for ensuring their competitiveness are priority areas of the state’s policy.
A round-table conversation has been held by the Industry, Construction and Trade Issues Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (parliament) in cooperation with the Ozstandart standardization, metrology and certification agency of Uzbekistan.
This round-table conversation was entitled “The role of standardization and metrology in increasing the competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s economy: the current state of the system and prospects for its development”.
B.Alihonov, deputy speaker of the lower chamber of the parliament; A.Hayitov, director general of the Ozstandart agency; and others said that consistent measures directed towards improving the standardization and metrology system served for the modernization and diversification of the national economy’s branches.
A Presidential resolution dated 28 April 2017 on measures to improve the work of the standardization, metrology and certification agency of Uzbekistan raised reforms in this area to a new level.
In accordance with the approved programme of measures to improve the work of the standardization agency and make it more efficient, management systems are to be created at 9 thousand 158 enterprises by the year 2020. Metrology branches are to be set up in 19 districts to create conveniences for the population. It is envisaged that 12 centres will obtain international accreditation.
“In regions and districts where management systems are to be created in 2017, a list of nearly 2 thousand 100 enterprises has been formed. In cooperation with local hokimiyats (governorates), a timetable has been worked out for the gradual creation of management systems,” says Aziz Rasulov, chief of a department of the republican testing and certification centre.
It was specifically said at the event that rules on officials’ administrative responsibility had been tightened.
