First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Nematov met with the SCO Deputy Secretary-General Xie Xiaoyong, who arrived in Uzbekistan as the head of the SCO Observer Mission.

On December 17, 2019, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Nematov met with the SCO Deputy Secretary-General Xie Xiaoyong, who arrived in Uzbekistan as the head of the SCO Observer Mission.

According to Uzbekistan MFA, at the meeting, the practical aspects of the Mission’s activities were considered. It was noted that 20 observers are expected to participate from the SCO, 9 of which have already arrived in Uzbekistan.

It was emphasized that the current elections are held under the motto “New Uzbekistan – New Elections” and on the basis of the new Electoral Code of Uzbekistan, which has undergone comprehensive examination and was developed taking into account the recommendations of a number of authoritative international organizations.

A number of innovations are introduced in the elections aimed at further democratization of the electoral process, including for the first time, Uzbekistan citizens abroad are voting in droves.

The parties at the meeting also discussed pressing issues of strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the SCO.
