On December 23, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in Uzbekistan as the head of the CIS Observer Mission to observe elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and Local Councils.

Sergey Lebedev praised the December 22 election process, which was monitored by over 800 foreign observers, journalists from almost 50 countries, and international and regional media organizations. It was noted that the elections, held based on the principles of transparency and an open democratic struggle between political parties, became a vivid demonstration of the irreversibility of formation of a new Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, the parties considered urgent issues of interaction between Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee within the framework of the chairmanship of the country in the Commonwealth in 2020.

Confidence was expressed that the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the CIS will serve the further development of a more complete realization of its potential. In the Concept prepared by the Uzbek side and the Action Plan for its implementation, the main priorities of the CIS chairmanship are identified. In particular, in Uzbekistan it is planned to conduct more than 30 events, including meetings of the main bodies of the Commonwealth – the Council of Heads of State and the Council of Heads of Government, the Economic Council, the Council of Foreign Ministers, as well as a number of industry structures.

Views were exchanged on other promising areas for further development of interaction.
