The fourth round of political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Malaysia was held in Tashkent.

On September 12, 2019, the fourth round of political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Malaysia was held in Tashkent.

Delegations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov and Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato Amran Mohamed Zin.

During the consultations, a thorough review of bilateral relations was held with an emphasis on prospects for further development of cooperation in political, trade-economic, investment, tourism, cultural-humanitarian and other fields.

The importance of deepening the political dialogue and enhancing inter-parliamentary relations through the exchange of visits at various levels was emphasized.

The parties noted with satisfaction the steady growth in trade turnover, the total volume of which in 2018 exceeded 78 million USD, which is almost 20% more than the same indicator of the previous year. At the same time, as noted, the parties have significant potential for increasing the trade turnover. In this context, the question was raised of resuming the meetings of the Joint Trade Committee after a 10-year hiatus.

At the meeting, the need for further increasing bilateral investment cooperation and tourist exchanges, especially in the field of ziyorat tourism was noted, the practical aspects of implementation of respective joint projects on a mutually beneficial basis were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to prospects of enhancing cultural and humanitarian interaction, including in the field of education, information and communication technologies and sports.

Issues of expanding the legal framework of Uzbekistan – Malaysia partnership were examined.

At the consultations, views were exchanged on issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations, on regional and international issues.
