Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov met with Member of Parliament of Canada House of Commons, Chairman of Canada – Uzbekistan Friendship Group in the House of Commons, Ziad Aboultaif, who arrived in Uzbekistan as an international observer for the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and Local Councils.

The sides discussed the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, in particular between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Ziad Aboultaif positively assessed the large-scale reforms carried out in Uzbekistan, including in economic liberalization and ensuring human rights, and expressed support for development course chosen by the country.

The sides confirmed their interest in intensifying inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries on the background of reforming civil society institutions and implementing democratic reforms in Uzbekistan.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting.
