On July 6, the first meeting of the founders of the permanent Center for People’s Diplomacy of the SCO was held at the Committee for Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On July 6, the first meeting of the founders of the permanent Center for People’s Diplomacy of the SCO was held at the Committee for Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was attended by heads of relevant ministries and agencies that are members of the Coordination Council of the center.

Chairman of the Committee for Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers Rustambek Kurbanov informed about the main tasks and functions of the center. He particularly noted that this permanent institution is of great importance in strengthening mutual trust and good-neighborliness, interethnic and inter-religious harmony among the SCO member states.

The founders of the Center are the Committee for Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Culture, Higher and Secondary Special Education, Physical Culture and Sports, the State Committee for Tourism Development, the Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Arts, the Youth Union of Uzbekistan, the Creative Union of Journalists, the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan.

During the constituent assembly, issues of approving the charter of the center, the composition of the Coordinating Council and the Audit Commission were considered, and appropriate decisions were taken. Rahmatullo Nazarov, member of the Committee on International and Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was unanimously approved to the position of director of the Center for People’s Diplomacy of the SCO.

As participants of the event emphasized, the center’s formation will play an important role in further strengthening interethnic relations and international cooperation not only in the region, but also throughout the world.

The organization of the center’s activities, its financing, selection of qualified personnel, involvement of foreign partners was also considered at the event.
