Issues of improving mechanisms for resolving international commercial disputes discussed in Tashkent

Tashkent hosts a conference on “Arbitration and mediation: perspectives for Uzbekistan”. The event is organized at the initiative of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the project of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Uzbekistan for supporting the judicial reform in the country.
Deputy Minister of Justice Khudoyor Meliyev and USAID Central Asia office Director in Uzbekistan Gary Robbins noted the relevance of developing alternative methods of resolving international commercial disputes in Uzbekistan and the importance of studying foreign experience in this field.
Within the framework of the conference, current issues of development of mechanisms for resolving international commercial disputes through mediation and arbitration, the relevance of Uzbekistan's accession to the Convention on international settlement agreements reached as a result of mediation are being discussed. Negotiations are being held on development of cooperation in preparation of mediators, professional legal staff according to international standards and establishing cooperation with Tashkent International Arbitration Centre.
Following the first day of the conference, the participants expressed interest in further cooperation on development of institutions of international arbitration and mediation in Uzbekistan.
