Cooperation with IAEA will further develop
Turin Polytechnic University hosted a solemn event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of cooperation between Uzbekistan and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Cooperation with the IAEA is actively developing in implementation of technical assistance projects. Projects have been completed on improving radiation safety of cancer centers, purchasing high tech scientific medical equipment and training in radiation medicine, as well as in new techniques in nuclear physics laboratories of the National University of Uzbekistan and Samarkand State University, modernization and strengthening radiation and nuclear safety of the only nuclear research reactor of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, export of spent highly enriched nuclear fuel to the country of origin (to the Russian Federation), as well as decommission of the entire site of the research nuclear reactor of Photon JSC of Uzeltechsanoat Association and others.
Significant support was provided in training and advanced training. Uzatom Agency staff, responsible ministries and agencies associated with the project attended the training workshops organized by IAEA in Vienna, the United States, Russia, Romania and the Czech Republic. Issues of choosing location and implementation of nuclear power plant construction, nuclear legislation and physical protection of facilities were also discussed.
IAEA confirmed the Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) mission to the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020. Technical cooperation program has been developed with IAEA on creating a nuclear infrastructure within the framework of the project of construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan for 2020-2021.
