Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov has held a teleconference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic Luigi Di Maio.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic Luigi Di Maio a wide range of issues of investment, trade, economic, financial and technical cooperation.

It was emphasized that the current activity of intergovernmental interaction and high interconnectedness of the economies of the two countries create conditions for intensive joint work on implementation of existing bilateral agreements through the use of new modern methods of communication and implementation of custom solutions.

Prospects for trade development were discussed. In 2019, the growth of mutual trade compared to the previous year amounted to 31.7%, and in the first quarter of 2020 – 37.4% compared to the same period in 2019.

An agreement was also reached on establishing and expanding cooperation with such banks as UniCredit, Intesa Sanpaolo, UBI Banca and other financial institutions of Italy.

An agreement was reached on cooperation in implementation of social projects, such as opening a branch of the University of Pisa in Tashkent, creation of a joint faculty between Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute and the University of Sannio in the direction of Medical Bioengineering, establishment of the Italian Design Center in Tashkent and introduction of advanced Italian teaching methods in tourism curriculum of the Silk Road International University of Tourism in Samarkand.
