Tashkent hosted a roundtable discussion on “Uzbekistan – Japan: opportunities for enhancing cooperation in the era of the IV industrial revolution”, organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with the Development Strategy Center.
The event was attended by representatives of the Information and Analytical Center for International Relations, the Center for Economic Research and Reforms under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Center for Research Initiatives “Mano”.
It was noted that relations with Japan have acquired a systemic, multifaceted character; they are developing in the spirit of mutual respect and taking into account the interests of the two countries. Japan supports the regional policy of Uzbekistan and is ready to help in liberalizing the economy, uniting the region into a single, large economic zone.
“Japan is a country with high economic, scientific and technological potential”, says Aziz Karimov, leading researcher at the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. “Tokyo maintains a leading position in the global economy. Japan ranks third in terms of GDP in the world, and fourth in terms of scientific and technological potential. It is also in fourth place in terms of trade: it imports more than 700 billion dollars annually”.
A. Karimov noted that experts also consider the Land of the Rising Sun as an investment power. In 2018, the volume of Japanese investments abroad exceeded 159 billion USD. The main recipient countries were the European Union, the United States and the ASEAN countries.
