International Press Center hosted a press conference on the elections.

Elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local Councils of people’s deputies are actively ongoing in 10 260 polling stations.

CEC Chairman M.Abdusalomov noted that for the first time in the history of the elections of Uzbekistan, an automated system was used. As a result, about 20.5 million voters were registered, 97.7 percent of them vote in Uzbekistan, the rest – abroad.

Candidates from 5 political parties are taking part in the elections.

Initially, 757 candidates were registered, but 6 of them withdrew before the elections.

Despite the fact that the election process began more than two hours ago, there have not yet been complaints about violation of the law. Some of the foreign observers attending the press conference noted that they had visited polling stations and made sure that the elections are held in accordance with democratic principles and at a high organizational level.
