Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov has met with the Head of ODIHR Election Assessment Mission, Cayetana de Zulueta Owtram.

On December 6, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Head of ODIHR Election Assessment Mission, Cayetana de Zulueta Owtram, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

The Minister welcomed the decision of the OSCE/ODIHR to send a full Mission to Uzbekistan to assess the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Councils and congratulated on the beginning of its activities.

At the meeting, the innovation was positively assessed, allowing Uzbekistan citizens to include themselves in the voter list of a particular polling station abroad by writing directly to diplomatic and consular offices or by registering online at saylov.mfa.uz. Moreover, the system is easy to use, only the passport data and contacts are required. The whole procedure is free.

Cayetana de Zulueta Owtram thanked for the assistance provided by the Uzbek side in resolving logistics and organizational issues and reported that part of the Mission, consisting of 42 long-term international observers, began to operate in Tashkent city and the regions. Currently, a list of more than 220 short-term international observers, who will be located in almost all constituencies on December 22, is being finalized with the OSCE participating States.

In this context, the practical aspects of interaction between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OSCE/ODIHR Election Assessment Mission were discussed.
