Tashkent forum says groundless attacks on Islam are unacceptable
A round table on unacceptability of groundless attacks and on the Islamic religion was held in Tashkent. It was organized by the Tashkent Islamic University in conjunction with the Legislative Chamber’s Committee for International Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations.
Tashkent city’s 2200th anniversary to be celebrated in 2009
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution on 2 April on preparation to the 2200th anniversary of the city of Tashkent, to be held in 2009. Historical monuments in the city will be reconstructed and new objects will be built, together with development of the social infrastructure.
Young families in Uzbekistan provided with apartments
Two apartment houses were commissioned in Kokand, Ferghana region during the celebrations of the Navruz holiday. The houses were built specially for young families. A 32-apartment house was commissioned also in Tahiatash, Karakalpakstan. This year, more than 100 young families are expected to receive new housing in this northwestern region of Uzbekistan.
16 million people participate in hashar
More than 16 million people participated in the nationwide hashar (community work), held in Uzbekistan on 15-16 March. Over 10 million of that figure were young people.
Salaries in Uzbekistan to increase from 1 April
President of Uzbekistan signed a decree on 5 March 2008 on increasing the salaries, pensions, stipends and social allowances. According to the document, starting from 1 April salaries to employees of the state-financed institutions and organizations, as well as pensions, stipends and social allowances will be increased 1.12 times on the average.

Thanks to improvement of quality of health service and the level of medical culture of the population, the number of infectious diseases cases decreases in Uzbekistan.

Ijtimoiy Fikr public opinion research center announced the results of the opinion polls in October, November and early December on the citizen’s awareness of the upcoming elections of the President of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan marks 15th anniversary of Constitution
Solemn ceremony devoted to the 15th anniversary of the Constitution of Uzbekistan was held on 7 December in Tashkent. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov made a speech at the meeting. The head of the state said all achievements on the way of building a democratic society and protecting the rights, interests and freedoms of people are based on the Constitution.
Group of Uzbek citizens receives state awards
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov handed over awards to a group of citizens at the Oqsaroy residence on 7 December. The awards were given in accordance with the decrees of the President issued on the eve of the 16th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence.
Health train sent to Republic of Karakalpakstan
A health train carrying humanitarian cargo was sent to the Republic of Karakalpakstan by the Ecosan, ecology and health organization, and Uzbekistan Railways.
Salaries in Uzbekistan to increase 20% from 16 November
President of Uzbekistan signed a decree on increasing the salaries, pensions, stipends and social allowances on 23 October 2007. According to the document, starting from 16 November 2007 salaries, pensions, social allowances and stipends will be increased 1.2 times on the average.
Korean Diaspora marks 70 years in Uzbekistan
The Korean Diaspora marked 70 years of living in Uzbekistan on Saturday. Representatives of national cultural centers, state, non-governmental and international organizations participated in the solemn event held in Tashkent. Vice Prime Minister Rustam Azimov read the greeting of the President Islam Karimov to the ceremony participants. A concert program with participation of national cultural centers was presented at the event.
Health trains sent to Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions
Ecosan, ecology and health organization, and Uzbekistan Railways sent health trains to the country’s southern Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions. Social initiatives support fund participated in organizing the health train to Kashkadarya.
Celebrations of Margilan city’s 2000th anniversary held
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov participated in the celebrations of the 2000th anniversary of the city of Margilan on 7 September. In accordance with the resolution of the head of the state of 9 November 2005 on celebration of Margilan’s jubilee, wide-scale construction works have been held in the city.
Uzbekistan celebrates 16th independence anniversary
Celebrations of the 16th anniversary of independence of Uzbekistan were held on 31 August at the National Park in Tashkent. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov participated in the celebrations and congratulated the people of Uzbekistan with the anniversary. The performance that followed demonstrated the country’s achievements during the years of independence.
Ecosan and Uzbekistan Railways send health train to Karakalpakstan
Ecosan, international ecology and health organisation, jointly with Uzbekistan Railways sent a health train to Karakalpakstan. The action has been organised in the framework of the state program Year of Social Protection.
Fifty Tashkent schools to receive new equipment in 2007
In accordance with the State national school education development program for 2004-2009, 2 new schools will be built, 2 schools reconstructed and 24 fully repaired and 24 will undergo regular repairs this year in Tashkent.
Entrance tests held in all universities of Uzbekistan
All universities of Uzbekistan held entrance tests on 1 August. In line with the President’s resolution, 51,604 students will be accepted to Uzbek universities this year.
