Academician Pulat Khabibullayev dies

The science of Uzbekistan has experienced a great loss. Famous physicist, academician of the Sciences Academy of Uzbekistan Pulat Khabibullayev died at the age of 73 on 7 February.

Pular Khabibullayev was born in 1936 in Asaka district of Andijan region. In 1960 he graduated from the Central Asian State University (now National University of Uzbekistan), and in 1972 obtained his PhD degree. In 1973, Khabibullayev received the professor’s title, and in 1984 he was elected member of the Sciences Academy.

Having started his work in 1963 as teacher at Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute (now university), Pulat Khabibullayev for almost 50 years conducted a successful scientific and pedagogical activity.

He worked as head of department at the pedagogical institute, rector at Andijan Cotton Growing Institute, director of Institute of Nuclear Physics, vice president and president of the Academy of Sciences, chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology, director of the Cabinet of Ministers’ Science and Technology Center and head of Department of Heat Physics at the Sciences Academy.

Pulat Khabibullayev was an active participant in the state and social activities; he occupied responsible posts like the chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Uzbekistan, and chairman of the international affairs committee of the Supreme Council of Uzbekistan.

More than 500 articles and about 30 monographs of the famous scientist, devoted to theoretical and practical aspects of physics, were an important contribution to the development of the science of Uzbekistan.

The achievements of Pulat Khabibullayev in the scientific development were highly evaluated by the country. He was awarded with the State Award of Uzbekistan, the title “Honored worker of science of Uzbekistan” and the order “Mehnat shuhrati”.

The bright memory of the renowned scientist, talented organizer of science, kind and caring tutor Pulat Khabibullayev will always remain in our hearts.
