Tashkent hosts session of Council of heads of governments of SCO member states
Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov, Premier of the State Council of China Wen Jiabao, Acting Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev, Head of Russian Government Victor Zubkov, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Akil Akilov, SCO General Secretary Bolat Nurgaliyev and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure Myrzakan Subanov participated in the session.
President Karimov receives Russian Premier Zubkov
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received head of the Russian government Victor Zubkov on 2 November in Tashkent. The latter arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the session of the council of heads of governments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states. The sides considered issues of development of cooperation and other matters of mutual interest.
Uzbekistan and ADB sign loan agreement on state finance management reform project
Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank signed a loan agreement on the Reforming the State Finance Management project. The signing took place on 31 October in Tashkent in the framework of the visit of the ADB president Haruhiko Kuroda to Uzbekistan.
President of Uzbekistan receives head of Asian Development Bank
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received president of the Asian Development Bank Haruhiko Kuroda on 31 October. At the meeting in Oqsaroy residence, the sides discussed relations between Uzbekistan and the ADB, as well as implementation and possible development of new joint projects. The ADB is one of Uzbekistan’s reliable and active partners.
Salaries in Uzbekistan to increase 20% from 16 November
President of Uzbekistan signed a decree on increasing the salaries, pensions, stipends and social allowances on 23 October 2007. According to the document, starting from 16 November 2007 salaries, pensions, social allowances and stipends will be increased 1.2 times on the average.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov left for Turkmenistan on 18 October for a two-day state visit on the invitation of this country’s President Gurbanguli Berdymukhammedov.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will pay a state visit to Turkmenistan on 18-19 October on the invitation of this country’s President Gurbanguli Berdymukhammedov.
More than 3.6m tons of cotton gathered in Uzbekistan
Farmers of Uzbekistan gathered more than 3.6 million tons of cotton. This year, the cotton was cultivated on 1.44 million hectares of lands. For the first time, 100 percent of the total harvest was grown by farms. The average yield made up 26 centners per hectare, and 86 percent of the total harvest was first grade against 74 percent last year.
Central Election Commission creates electoral districts for presidential elections
Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan held a session on 5 October to consider formation of electoral districts for presidential elections. The session was held by Election Commission chairman Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov. The commission also considered other issues related to preparation and conduction of the elections of the President of Uzbekistan.
President of Uzbekistan leaves for Dushanbe for CIS summit
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov left for Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 5 October to participate in the regular session of the Council of heads of states of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Jizzakh and Syrdarya regions of the country on 27 September. During the visit, the head of the state met farmers in both regions, and discussed issues related to cotton growing.
Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan considers 2008 state budget
The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan considered the macroeconomic forecast, the concept of tax and budget policy and the draft state budget for 2008 on 26 September. Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev conducted the Cabinet session. During the discussions, concrete proposals were elaborated on the improvement of the tax and budget policy and 2008 budget parameters.

Festival “Culture of ancient Khorezm” opened in Khiva, Khorezm region, with participation of representatives from more than 20 countries. The goal of the festival is to attract more tourists to the region.

“The agreement envisages cooperation in timely provision and distribution of information on the preparation to and holding of the presidential elections on central TV and radio channels,” Central Election Commission chairman Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said.

Korean Diaspora marks 70 years in Uzbekistan
The Korean Diaspora marked 70 years of living in Uzbekistan on Saturday. Representatives of national cultural centers, state, non-governmental and international organizations participated in the solemn event held in Tashkent. Vice Prime Minister Rustam Azimov read the greeting of the President Islam Karimov to the ceremony participants. A concert program with participation of national cultural centers was presented at the event.
