A roundtable discussion has been held on the initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, forwarded at the SCO Summit.

On November 18, a roundtable discussion was held on the initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, forwarded at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The event, organized by the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was attended by senators and deputies of the Oliy Majlis, heads and experts of leading research centers, rectors of UWED, TSUOS, professors and researchers of a number of higher education institutions, as well as representatives of ministries and agencies of the country.

The participants of the event conducted a deep analysis of the proposals of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on further development of cooperation within the SCO, due to the current international situation, the priorities of the regional and domestic agenda.

Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sanjar Valiyev, drew attention to the most important trends in the SCO and revealed the new active role of Uzbekistan in further building up interaction on this organization’s platform.

According to the ISRS representative, the COVID-19 pandemic has become a powerful catalyst for global change, has affected almost all spheres and has affected practical cooperation within the SCO. Under the current conditions, the decisions made at the SCO summit, held on November 10, became a collective response to a set of problems that are shaping the new reality.

As S. Valiyev noted, the initiatives of Uzbekistan’s leader found the support of the majority of partners in the organization precisely through the prism of the tasks facing the SCO. The pragmatic and specific nature of his proposals on formation of new approaches and mechanisms of cooperation in socio-economic sphere, strengthening the connectivity of healthcare systems and enhancing contacts in security, in fact, creates a basis for wider use of the SCO countries’ potential in common interests.

S. Valiyev concluded that the new open foreign policy of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, entirely based on the interests of the country and the region’s development, gives a powerful impetus to the development of cooperation. It strengthens the country’s authority in the SCO and other international organizations.
