A meeting with the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria led by the Chairperson of the Friendship Group Bulgaria – Uzbekistan, deputy Adlen Shukri Shevked was held at the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation, including further development of inter-parliamentary dialogue, strengthening cooperation in promoting democratic reforms, expanding trade, economic and investment ties.

Bulgaria is one of the reliable partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. Currently, there are 15 enterprises operating in the country with participation of investors from Bulgaria, including four with 100% Bulgarian capital. They work in the areas of oil refining, production of finished textile, food products, and services.

As it was noted at the meeting by the Chairperson of the Committee on International Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations, head of Uzbekistan – Bulgaria inter-parliamentary cooperation group Avazbek Jalilov, the proximity of the two countries’ positions on regional and international issues serves as the foundation for development of bilateral relations. The potential for interaction is enormous. It is important to effectively use parliamentary mechanisms for promoting initiatives in trade and economic, investment and cultural-humanitarian spheres, innovative development, tourism, business.

According to the Legislative Chamber, the guests were provided with information on reforms implemented in Uzbekistan on the basis of the Action Strategy, activities of the Oliy Majlis, factions of political parties in the lower house of parliament. Adlen Shukri Shevked stated the intention of the Bulgarian parliament to promote the intensification of a comprehensive political dialogue.

Within the framework of the visit to Uzbekistan, the delegation of the National Assembly of Bulgaria will also hold meetings at the Ministry for Foreign Trade, State Committee for Investments, State Committee for Tourism Development, will visit Bukhara and Samarkand.
