President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during the visit to Surkhandarya region, noted that positive changes have been observed in silkworm industry after establishment of “Uzbekipaksanoat” (Uzbekistan silk industry) association. Strong legal framework is an important factor in achieving success in the sphere.

Last year, the method of obtaining three harvests of cocoons a year was tested in Uzbekistan for the first time. Construction of silkworm farms on the basis of advanced technologies has started in all regions. At present, there are 51 such structures in Surkhandarya region and 151 in the country.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that it is necessary to bring the number of silkworm farms to 10 thousand in the next five years, and the export volume of cocoons – up to $1 billion a year. To do this, all existing mulberry plantations will be transferred to “Uzbekipaksanoat” association. Each plantation will have a silkworm farm.

Active sericulturists of the region, who achieved high results last year, will receive President’s gifts – 12 Damas cars and 2 agricultural machineries.
