On June 20, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the Advisor to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on national security issues Mohammad Hanif Atmar, who is in Uzbekistan on a working visit.

At the meeting, Mohammad Hanif Atmar on behalf of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressed sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Uzbekistan for rendering humanitarian assistance to people of Afghanistan, who suffered from drought.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the sides exchanged views on key issues of Uzbekistan – Afghanistan and the regional agenda.

Advisor to the President gave detailed information on the situation in Afghanistan. He thanked the Uzbek side for consistent and systematic work on implementation of agreements reached at Tashkent International Conference on Afghanistan on March 26-27, 2018.

The Afghan side also expressed its full support for the position of the Government of Uzbekistan, set out in the Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of June 18 on assisting the peace negotiation process.

The interlocutors noted with satisfaction the dynamic nature of interstate cooperation in political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian, educational and other spheres and discussed prospects for further development of bilateral relations.

Ambassador of Afghanistan Sayed Shahabuddin Timory attended the meeting.
