First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev has held talks with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Icelandic Parliament and Chairman of the Icelandic delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Sigríður Á. Andersen.

First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev has held talks with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Icelandic Parliament and Chairman of the Icelandic delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Sigríður Á. Andersen, via videoconference.

According to the upper house of Uzbekistan Parliament, during the conversation it was noted that Uzbekistan seeks to actively develop contacts with foreign partners, including with Iceland.

Sigríður Andersen emphasized the importance of the orientation of reforms carried out in Uzbekistan to the rule of law, freedom of expression, protection of human rights. She also expressed hope for further success in the process of modernizing the country.

It was noted that this is the first inter-parliamentary dialogue in the history of the two countries, which outlined steps to establish active practical interaction between legislative bodies.

At the meeting, the parties also discussed issues of mutual exchange of experience on various aspects of lawmaking and public administration.
