President of Uzbekistan receives Premier of State Council of China
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Wen Jiabao on 2 November in Tashkent. During the talks at the Oqsaroy residence, the sides considered the current state and perspectives of the Uzbek-Chinese relations. The first official visit to Uzbekistan of the Chinese State Council’s Premier is a great opportunity to discuss relations between the two countries, Islam Karimov said.
Tashkent hosts session of Council of heads of governments of SCO member states

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received head of the Russian government Victor Zubkov on 2 November in Tashkent. The latter arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the session of the council of heads of governments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states. The sides considered issues of development of cooperation and other matters of mutual interest.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received president of the Asian Development Bank Haruhiko Kuroda on 31 October. At the meeting in Oqsaroy residence, the sides discussed relations between Uzbekistan and the ADB, as well as implementation and possible development of new joint projects. The ADB is one of Uzbekistan’s reliable and active partners.

Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan held a session on 5 October to consider formation of electoral districts for presidential elections. The session was held by Election Commission chairman Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov. The commission also considered other issues related to preparation and conduction of the elections of the President of Uzbekistan.

Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan considers 2008 state budget
The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan considered the macroeconomic forecast, the concept of tax and budget policy and the draft state budget for 2008 on 26 September. Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev conducted the Cabinet session. During the discussions, concrete proposals were elaborated on the improvement of the tax and budget policy and 2008 budget parameters.

“The agreement envisages cooperation in timely provision and distribution of information on the preparation to and holding of the presidential elections on central TV and radio channels,” Central Election Commission chairman Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said.

Central Election Commission sets Presidential elections day
The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan announced 23 December 2007 as the day of Presidential elections. The election campaign will start on 21 September, commission chairman Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said. At its Tuesday session, the election commission passed a resolution on announcing the start of the election campaign. It also approved the plan of events of election commissions to prepare and hold the elections.
UNESCO director general congratulates President of Uzbekistan with 2000th jubilee of Margilan
General director of UNESCO Koitiro Matsuura congratulated President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov with the 2000th anniversary of the city of Margilan. The celebrations of the jubilee were held in the country last Friday.
Islam Karimov’s book “Uzbekistan: 16 years of independent development” published
“Uzbekistan” publishing house published the book by President Islam Karimov entitled “Uzbekistan: 16 years of independent development”. The book contains the report of the head of the state at the joint session of the Oliy Majils, Cabinet of Ministers and the President’s Office held on 30 August 2007. The report analyzes the country’s development and achievements in the years of independence, and sets tasks for the future.
