Tajikistan celebrates Mehrgon Festival
Administration of the Sughd region invited a group of Uzbekistan journalists to the traditional Mehrgon holiday.
These days, when a generous autumn is in full swing, the East, in particular Central Asian countries are celebrating traditional harvest festival.
The main events of the festival – the pilaf festival, honey and melons, national sweets exhibitions, “Atlas and adras of Sughd” festival took place in Arbob Qasri complex, which is near the city of Khujand.
On the square, divided into pavilions for all districts and cities of the region, dehkans, gardeners, livestock breeders demonstrated their agricultural products.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon took part in festivities. He visited exhibitions, talked with dehkans, gardeners, artisans, chefs, labor veterans and the creative intelligentsia of Sughd.
At the festival, food industry enterprises of the region demonstrated bread products, almost 30 kinds of national sweets. At the exhibition of grain products, Samarkand bread from Khujand bakers attracted everyone.
The Pilaf Festival is considered one of the main events of the holiday. Talented chefs from all districts and cities of the region prepared 30 types of pilaf. These are pilaf from Penjikent rice “Devzira” and “Tursunzoda” rice, pilaf with mountain partridge meat, pilaf on linseed oil with melon seeds, pilaf with kazy, raisin, quail eggs and so on.
Contests and competitions with interesting conditions were held within the framework of festivities.
