Photo exhibition demonstrates Olympic Games
International exhibition devoted to the Beijing Olympic Games of 2008 is being held in Samarkand. The event, organized by the National Olympic Committee, was a logical continuation of the exhibitions held in Moscow, Kiev, Minsk and Tashkent.
TashkentALE 2008 completes
International photo biennale TashkentALE 2008 ended in the capital of Uzbekistan. The event was devoted to the 2,200th anniversary of the city and organized by the Fund Forum of culture and art of Uzbekistan, the Arts Academy and the Tashkent house of photography.

Tashkent international photo biennale TashkentALE 2008 is continuing. It has been organized by the Fund “Forum of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan”, Arts Academy and the Tashkent Photography House and is devoted to the 2,200th anniversary of Tashkent. The exhibition titled “With reverence to nature” opened in the Gallery of Fine Arts in the framework of the TashkentALE.
Design and fashion week Style.Uz opens
The third Week of design and fashion Style.Uz 2008 opened in Tashkent on Sunday. It has been organized by the Fund “Forum of culture and art of Uzbekistan” and the Tashkent Style House. World-famous designers, owners of popular jewelry and fashion brands, representatives of international organizations and TV channels working in the field of fashion, show business stars, editors of fashion magazines, public figures from various countries are participating in the event.
Exhibition of musical instruments opens
The exhibition of musical instruments, equipment and teaching aids for children’s schools of music and art opened in Tashkent. It has been organized by the ministries of culture and sports, and education. In July, President of Uzbekistan signed a resolution on the State program of strengthening logistical base and improvement of children’s school of music and art for 2009-2014.

Photo exhibition “Uzbekistan in the children’s eyes” is currently held in the Royal Arts College in London. It has been organized by the Fund “Forum of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan” jointly with the British organization Pro Art & Co. with support of the British Council and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London.

The third Design and Fashion Week Style.Uz will be held from 12 to 17 October in Tashkent and Samarkand. Its organizers are the Fund “Forum of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan” and the Tashkent Style House.

Davr sadolari festival opened at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, organized by the Union of Composers together with Uzbek Theater association.
State program of improvement of children’s music and art schools for 2009-2014 adopted
President of Uzbekistan signed a resolution “On State program of strengthening material-technical base and improvement of children’s music and art schools in the years 2009-2014” on 8 July 2008. The approved program is aimed at creation of favorable environment for development of talents and abilities of children and envisages a fundamental improvement of elementary music education in the country.
International Youth Film Festival "Creative Flight" starts
The third International Youth Central Asian Film Festival “Creative Flight” started on 12 May at the State Institute of Arts of Uzbekistan. The event has been organized by the National Agency Uzbekkino in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Arts Academy, Public Youth Movement Kamolot, the National Television and Radio Company, Bukhara regional administration and Uzbekistan Railways company.

The festival of cultural traditions and national cuisine was held at the Receptions House of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country took part in the event.

Culture and art of Uzbekistan have suffered a heavy loss. On 30 April 2008, people’s artist of Uzbekistan academician Malik Nabiyev died at the age of 92.

The Week of Fine Arts 2008 started in the Arts Academy of Uzbekistan on 21 April. The main goal of the forum is to showcase the latest achievements in fine arts and provide the artists with the opportunity to discuss issues of interest.
Traditional culture festival to be held in Kashkadarya in May
Festival of traditional culture “Asrlar sadosi” (“Echo of the centuries”) will be held on 3-4 May in Kitab district of Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan. The event is being organized by the Fund “Forum of culture and art of Uzbekistan”. It aims to inform the citizens and foreigners about the culture, traditions and customs of the Uzbek people, including music and dance, applied art, craftsmanship, folklore and national sports.
President sends present to father and son Utaganovs
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov sent a present to woodcarvers Yolbars Utaganov and his son Umidillo of Andijan region. The gift was sent in response to Umidillo Utaganov’s wooden table and chair, which he made specially for the President.
Monument to poetess Zulfiya opened in Tashkent
On 1 March, a monument to famous poetess Zulfiya opened in the center of Tashkent. Heads of state and public organizations, poets and writers, relatives and others participated in the opening. Mayor of Tashkent A.Tukhtayev opened the solemn ceremony. The monument has been raised in accordance with the resolution of the President of Uzbekistan dated 13 September 2007. It was created by sculptor Ravshan Mirtojiyev.
