Uzbekistan develops cooperation with the world’s largest fashion retailers
Representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Spain and a number of domestic manufacturers of textile products held talks with the leadership of the Spanish textile giant Inditex.

Inditex is one of the world’s largest fashion retailers, with eight brands (Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home and Uterqüe) selling in 202 markets through its online platform or its over 7,000 stores in 96 markets.

The Uzbek textile pool was represented by Aisha Home Textile, Chust Textile, Bofanda, Bukhara Cotton Textile, Zarafshon Tekstil, UzTex Group, Textile Technologies Group.

During the negotiations, the Spanish side was acquainted with the potential and development of Uzbekistan’s textile industry.

Uzbekistan is interested in expanding the geography of export of textile products. In order to increase the supply of textiles to the EU countries, significant steps have been taken to obtain GSP+ beneficiary status. It is expected that by the end of 2020, the European Commission will make a positive decision on this issue.

The Spanish side expressed confidence that deep economic reforms will allow the country to obtain GSP+ status, which will be a powerful factor for further expansion of cooperation between Inditex and Uzbekistan manufacturers.

Inditex representatives informed about the necessary requirements imposed by the company for imported products and expressed their readiness to consider the relevant proposals.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue the negotiation process in order to implement joint projects in the textile sector.
